“La Voiture Noire” literally translates to “the black car” in French. This special one-off model was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show by Bugatti and is based on the brand’s another hyper car, the Chiron. The car was sold for a surprising $16.68 million, making it the most expensive new car ever made.

As the name suggests, the car is made with a carbon fiber body finished in jet-black. Although the powertrain stays the same as the Chiron’s 1500 hp 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbo engine, some parts like its 7-speed DCT have been revised to provide a more relaxing driving experience.

●Rolls-Royce Sweptail

Rolls Royce, a British luxury car brand, unveiled the Sweptail at the 2017 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, a classic car event in Italy. Based on the company’s flagship coupe, the Phantom Coupe, this one-off model was sold for $18.7 million.

The car was commissioned by a customer who loves Rolls-Royce cars from the 1920s, and the owner’s taste is reflected in the body panels and interior design while maintaining the good quality of the base car, especially the Parthenon grille which is made of machined aluminum.

Rolls-Royce traditionally takes orders for bespoke models like this. And even if not as much as the Sweptail, each model can be ordered with the exterior color, interior design, and materials that the buyer desires.

The Exelero is a concept car unveiled by German luxury car brand Maybach in 2005. Based on the Maybach 57, the car was a one-off production model in collaboration with German tire manufacture Fulda to prove their tire’s performance.

Although its body weighs around 5,200 lbs., the car is capable of driving at a top speed of over 350 km/h (217 mph) thanks to its 5.9-liter V12 twin-turbo engine. The flowing bodyworks were made by Italian concept car manufacturer Stola based on a final design completed by four students from the Transportation Design School of Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences.

The car was originally built as a concept car, but according to the British automotive program “Top Gear,” the Exelero was purchased by American rapper Birdman in 2011 for $8 million. Jay-Z featured this car in his music video for “Lost One”, proving that the car gave some influence on American pop culture.
