Toyota launched the new Sienna Hybrid in the Korean market. Its body is larger in both length and width than the Alphard, but what kind of car is it?

First Hybrid Minivan In Korea

Toyota’s Korean subsidiary held an online event for the new Sienna Hybrid on April 13th, 2021, and launched it on the same day. It is said to be the first hybrid minivan to be sold in the Korean market, but what exactly is this model?

The new Sienna Hybrid is the fourth generation of Toyota’s Sienna model sold exclusively overseas, and as the car’s name suggests, it became a hybrid-only model from the current model. It has already been sold in North America.

Body dimensions are 5175 mm x 1995mm x 1775mm (203.7 in x 78.5 in x 68.5 in), and the overall length and width are larger than the Alphard sold in Japan (4945 mm x 1850 mm x 1935 mm, 194.7 in x 72.8 in x 76.1 in). The big minivan can seat up to 7 passengers.

2WD and 4WD models are available, and the 2WD model is equipped with a head-up display function.

An 11.6-inch large-screen rear-seat entertainment system and built-in ottomans are provided for the second-row, and the second-row captain’s seat has a super-long-slide function of 624 mm (24.5 in).

Only available powertrain is a 2.5-liter gasoline engine mated with an electrical motor, with the net hybrid system output being 246 hp. Gas mileage for 2WD being 14.5 km/L (34 mpg) and 4WD being 13.7 km/L (32 mpg).

The 4WD model will be equipped with Toyota’s electrical 4WD system “E-Four”, which effectively distributes the driving force between the front and rear wheels according to the driving conditions to achieve great stability.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 bundle of driver-assisting features is a standard on the new Sienna. In addition to that, the car is also equipped with a panoramic Blind Spot Monitor that displays images from various perspectives depending on the gear position.

Hands-free power sliding doors with kick sensors and power liftgate are also a standard feature.

The price of the new Sienna Hybrid in the Korean market starts from KR₩ 64,000,000 (about US$ 57,000) for 2WD, and KR₩ 62,000,000 (about US$ 55,400) for 4WD.
